“Exploits and Adventures of Neville Shulman CBE”

On Thursday 25th March, we are honoured to host Circle Sq. member Neville Shulman – a mountaineer, explorer, author, writer, lecturer as well as advisor to directors and producers working in film, television, theatre and the Arts. His latest published book is a novel set in the US called ‘You Are What You Are’ and is receiving excellent reviews, including from film director Ridley Scott (‘This novel is a first class read’) and singer Annie Lennox (‘You never cease to amaze’).

Neville’s sense of adventure has defined his rich and varied career. In this talk, he will share stories of his expeditions – from his polar adventures to the North and South Poles, to summiting of some of the world’s highest peaks; to abseiling down London’s tallest buildings. He will also talk about his involvement with the arts, his love of writing, his charitable endeavours, his Zen philosophy and what life has been like for an avid explorer during the pandemic.

Neville is the author of many books, both factual and fiction, including Some Like It Cold, Climbing the Equator, Zen in the Art of Climbing Mountains and, of course, You Are What You Are

He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, the Explorers Club, the Scientific Exploration Society and the Bhutan Society. He is involved with numerous charitable organisations and is an Ambassador of Action for Children. In respect of his explorations and charitable fundraising Neville was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire(OBE); subsequently Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). He has received several exploration awards.
