Literary London Walk

“Literary London Walk” with Sam Jacobs

Due to popular demand, Sam Jacob’s Literary London tour is now being offered in-person! Sam will guide Circle Sq. members through the highways and byways of London, meandering through main streets and alleys, taking in the homes of writers, people of letters, places described by Dickens, ruins of old monasteries, the home of Shakespeare, and the birthplaces and homes of poets. We’ll look at scenes from famous works of literature, see where a newspaper seller who wrote King Kong worked, the site of the first daily newspaper, and the place where books were burned.  And this is only the first part. There’ll be time for old churches described by poets and the old alleys described by Dickens in the Pickwick Papers.  Each walk is unique.

Sam Jacobs, IT Consultant and Circle Sq. member, has a passion for the history of London.  He recently launched a new guide on the literary sights of the City of London. Following in the footsteps of Chaucer, Donne, Shakespeare, Dickens, T.S. Eliot and J.K. Rowling, this directory of sights and sites goes back 800 years to the origins of the modern English language and city. In this talk, Sam will share his favourite highlights from his book and take us on a virtual exploration of the stories behind the architecture.
