09 May Wine tasting Hedonism Wines
Wine Tasting at Hedonism Wines.
The wine cellar downstairs at Hedonism Wine was filled with Circle Sq. members and friends who came together on 9 May 2019, to taste a carefully chosen selection of wines.
It was a real privilege to hear from Hedonism’s Head Buyer, Alistair Viner. He spoke passionately about buying wines that he thinks are interesting and different, regardless of the size and prestige of its provenance. We should, Alistair said, drink wines that we like, regardless of cost. With over 6,500 wines to choose from, it’s clear that Alistair and his team have travelled far and wide to please their customer’s palettes.
On arrival everyone was given a glass of bubbly The Colcombet Brut Sabre was a big hit. The white wines were focussed on Chardonnay; one from New Zealand – Bird on the Wire Chardonnay; and the other a beautiful French Aligote from Bouzeron – a 2015 Bouzeron Aligote Ramonet.
There was much to discuss and debate about the four reds that were tasted. A blind tasting of a 2013 Seresin Noa Pinot Noir from New Zealand and a 2015 Ploussart Pointe Barre Bonnard divided opinions. Whilst the classic French PInot Noir had few detractors, it was agreed that the Seresin Pinot needs to be served with food to show of its fruity notes.
The tasting concluded with a very special, hard to find 1997 Stellenzicht Syrah form South Africa and a 1999 Xinomavro Pegasos from Northern Greece.
This is the second time that we have collaborated with Hedonism. If you missed this event, look out for our next tasting evening at Hedonism.
